Personally, I am fed up, as well as disgusted, by the assault on our National Anthem and everything to do with American Heritage and culture. Just recently our Vice President is on national TV and tells the nation to enjoy the 3-day weekend. What a disgrace. Nothing about honoring the soldiers that have died from wars to protect democracy and our way of life.
Colin Kaepernick to my knowledge was the initiator in the unpatriotic display kneeling during the national anthem. The National Football league supplied Colin with a National Stage for his protests against the National Anthem. He has not only been joined by other NFL players, but also by the likes of Denasia Lawrence. Who is she? I have no idea, but she sang the National Anthem before the NBA preseason game between the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers on October 21, 2016.
Not only did she not stand up for the National Anthem, she opened her jacket and openly displayed a Black Lives Matter t-shirt.
Our practice of political correctness has, and will continue to destroy the very fabric of this country. I compare this to labor unions. Unions came about as a result of unfair work practices imposed by companies against their employees. Low wages, unsafe working conditions, unsanitary work environment, mandated long work hours. Unions have lost a lot of their power over the years but still exist, but not for the original reasons they were formed. Don’t misunderstand this. I am neither for nor against Unions. They still provide the laborer with a united coalition and bargaining power for their rights.
In my opinion Political Correctness is out of control. Politicians no longer run on principals they believe in but platforms that will get them elected. In today’s world you can say anything, no matter how factual, about a black person without being called a racist. The peaceful movement to improve the lives of black people that Martin Luther King began is long gone. It has been replaced by violence and riots.
I believe in the constitution. I believe that the first amendment is extremely important to what has made this a great nation. I do believe in Colin’s right to protest. I also agree with Ruth Beda Ginsberg who said that while Colin Kaepernick’s protest was legal, it was “ a terrible thing to do”. What I would like to know is what has he done to help the people in any black community. In my opinion Donald Trump says it best, “I think it’s a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him.”
I don’t watch football like I used to. I want to know why athletes have a right to kneel for our national anthem yet when the Dallas Cowboys wanted to put five stars on their uniform for the 5 dead police in Dallas they couldn’t do it.
Gwen Berry is the latest athlete to use the freedoms offered by the United States and turned away from the flag when on the podium getting her award for third place in the hammer throw. Why should she be allowed to go to the Olympics representing the United States. This person believes she shouldn’t. She is now claiming it was a setup.
