What Jets make Final 53 Man Roster

The Deadline for the 53

I don’t have the answer’s to the entire final 53 man roster. The Jets have to go from 80 to 53 players by Tuesday, August 31st at 4 p.m. ET. I do have a couple of guesses at key positions.

I, like most Jet fans, was hoping to see Zach Wilson for at least one set of downs in the final preseason game. The decision to not play Zach was a good one. There are too many players playing for their lives and the chance for an injury was too great.

Robert Saleh for the most part , other than special teams, didn’t play the starters. The game was used as the final curtain for many of the players on the squad. In my opinion he was smart in his decision to do so.

Who will be the Number 2 QB

There are a lot of decisions that have to be made by Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh. One of the most important is who will be the backup to Zach Wilson. I think that Josh Johnson may have earned the spot as the number 2 quarterback based on his play against Philadelphia Friday night.

Teams can protect up to four players weekly on their practice squad.  This enables the Jets to have only two quarterbacks on their active 53 man roster. The Jets can also elevate two players from their practice squad every week.

Twenty Seven players will have to be cut from the 80 man roster. From that 27, 16 players will be placed on the practice squad. An important fact is the Jets are No. 2 in the waiver order.  This means  they will  be able to  look at hundreds of players ending up on the free market.I think they may be looking for an edge rusher to replace Carl Lawson.

Running Backs by Committee

The consensus is that Michael Carter, Ty Johnson, Tevin Coleman and La’Mical Perine will be the running and short receiving game for the Jets. I for one hopes that Josh Adams can get himself into the mix. He looked good Friday night against Philadelphia.
